Warm Up

In your Warm Ups document, use writing to respond to the following questions:

  • What do you want to learn more about?

  • What are you passionate about?

  • What pisses you off?

  • What are you interested in researching this semester?

Reading Discussion

Since last class you should have read Threshold Concept 1.0 from Naming What We Know and revisited the introduction for the Framework for Information Literacy.

Each group needs to discuss the importance of their assigned sections. Pick at least one quote to discuss with the class. Add group notes to the Google running document (kept by your scribe)

Group A: NWWK First two paragraphs

Group B: NWWK Paragraphs 3&4

Group C: NWWK Paragraphs 5&6

Group D: Framework Bold text and first full paragraph

Group E: Knowledge Practices and Dispositions

Discovery Log Session 1

To begin, write an informal letter to classmates and myself detailing what you have decided to research to learn more about this semester. What one (or two) question(s), issue(s), concern(s), problem(s), topic(s), etc. do you want to learn more about this semester? What do you want to research more so you become better informed? Ideally this will be some fairly general or big topic, but nothing is restricted deeming it is appropriate for class.
