Warm Up

Open your class folder on Google Drive or OneDrive.

-Make sure all of your documents are labeled and organized into appropriate folders.

-Make sure that when you click "share" on each document, that it is set to Anyone with Link "can comment."

-Run through this checklist to ensure that each item is present:

  • Warm Ups Running Document

  • Reading Response 1

  • Reading Response 2 (1&2 might be on the same document if you are choosing to have a running document)

  • Discovery Log 1

  • Discovery Log 2 (again, these might be on the same long document if that's how you chose to organize

  • Introductory Letter

  • Portfolio Practice 1

If you are missing any of these documents, part of your homework over the rest of the week is to ensure that all work assigned thus far is complete by this Sunday, September 16, at midnight, when Reading Response 3 and Discovery Log 3 are also due. You are responsible for completing your work, which is necessary to have sufficient evidence of your work and engagement in the Midterm Portfolio due on October 12 (which is a month from today!!).

Reading Discussion

Since last class you should have read Threshold Concept 4.0 from Naming What We Know and Framework for Information Literacy "Authority is Constructed and Contextual" & "Searching as Strategic Exploration"

Group 1: NWWK Threshold Concept 4.0, first 3 paragraphs

Group 2: NWWK Threshold Concept 4.0, last 4 paragraphs

Group 3: Framework - "Authority is Constructed and Contextual" Intro paragraphs

Group 4: Framework - "Authority is Constructed and Contextual" Knowledge Practices & Dispositions

Group 5: Framework - "Searching as Strategic Exploration" Intro Paragraphs

Group 6 Framework - "Searching as Strategic Exploration" Knowledge Practices & Dispositions

Each group needs to discuss the importance of their assigned sections. Pick at least one quote to discuss with the class. Add group notes to the Google running document (kept by your scribe)

 

Integrated Assignment 1

As part of Learning Community E, we are going to work collaboratively on a writing project that will include work from your Seminar and History classes. Let's look at Integrated Assignment 1 and discuss what it means and how we can approach the assignment.

Mark your calendars for next Friday, September 21. We will have a library visit to help you become familiar with using the library for research and locating primary sources.

 

Homework

Read:

Naming What We Know Threshold Concept 5.0 

Framework for Information Literacy "Research as Inquiry" and "Scholarship as a Conversation"

 

Write:

Begin a planning document in your "Engagement and Learning" folder for Integrated Writing Assignment 1 and start making notes of ideas or questions you have about the assignment
