Learning Outcomes​

  • Identify how their views of writing have changed as a result of the work they have done in the course

  • Evaluate the ways in which they have become a more reflective (mindful, self-aware, thoughtful) writer.

  • Demonstrate their ability to analyze different rhetorical situations (in academic, workplace, or civic contexts)

Habits of Mind

  • Responsibility is fostered when writers are encouraged to recognize their own role in learning.

  • Metacognition is fostered when writers are encouraged to reflect on the texts that they have produced in a variety of contexts.

Reading Discussion

Since last class you should have read Threshold Concept 3.0 from Naming What We Know and "What is a Genre" from Bickmore's GENRE in the WILD.

 

Group 1: NWWK 1st 2 paragraphs, 3.0

Group 2: NWWK Next 2 paragraphs, 3.0

Group 3: NWWK Final 2 paragraphs, 3.0

Group 4: Genre in the Wild, What is a Genre, stop at "Charles Bazerman..."

Group 5: Genre in the Wild, begin at "Charles Bazerman..." end at "When a writer decides..."

Group 6: Genre in the Wild, begin at "When a writer decides..." stop at "THE GENRE DOES NOT STAND ALONE"

Each group needs to discuss the importance of their assigned sections. Pick at least one quote to discuss with the class. Add group notes to the Google running document (kept by your scribe)

Portfolio Practice #1

Begin your first Portfolio Practice...copy and paste today's warm up on to a running document (titled Portfolio Practice - put in Portfolio folder). On our course website under "Assignments" -> "Portfolios," find the Portfolio Process checklist and then follow the process. Feel free to ask questions or discuss with classmates for ideas.
